Durg -Bhilai is one of the historical place in chhattisgarh . This city is made on the old city which existed during 2500 BC. This is a beautiful city with various tourist spots. Durg is a beautiful city which is located near the banks of shivnath river. Durg have rich history ,cultural heritage, and tourist attraction that makes it must visit destination in central India. The name of the city is derived from Sanskrit word “Durg” which means fort. Over the centuries, various dynasties ruled durg , including the Marathas , and the British , each leaving their mark on city’s architecture , culture , and traditions. This city have numerous temples , each with its unique architecture and historical significance. In 1857 Durg became a part of the British Empire and was made a district headquarters. The British developed the city's infrastructure, including roads , railways and telecommunications. After India gained independence in 1947, Durg became part of the state of Madhya Pradesh . The bhilai steel plant, one of the largest steel plants In India was established in 1955. In 2000, Chhatisgarh was separated from Madhya Pradesh , and Durg became the part of the new state. Today, Durg is thriving coty, known for industrial and economic growth, cultural heritage, and natural beauty. Durg has a rich cultural heritage, with a blend of traditional and modern influences. Durg city celebrates various festivals, including the navratri , which showcase its art.

CHANDI MANDIR :
Ø According
to local lore, the temple was build by the pandavas,the hero of mahabharata during their exile.
Ø Another
story attributes the temple’s construction to the chandelas a powerful dynasty
that ruled the region in the 10th and 12th centuries. The
temple’s architecture reflect the blend of chandelas and kalachuri styles,
indicating it was build during reign of these dynesty.
Ø Chandi
Mandir is believed to be one of the 52 Shakti Peethas, scared sites where parts
of Goddess Sati’s body fell, according to Hindu mythology.
Ø The
temple has undergone renovations and expansion over the centuries, with
significant contribution from the Maratha and British rule.
Ø Today
Chandi Mandir is a prominent pilgrimage site, attracting devoties from across
India, especially during the navaratri festival.

Hindi
Bhavan was constructed by the British in 1911 and originally named Edward Hall.
Hindi Bhavan is a historic building with

independence, the building was used for literary and cultural activities, and
was renamed Hindi Bhavan. From inside, its has charming and rustic ambiance,
reflecting its cultural and literary significance. Hindi Bhavan’s interior is a
perfect blend of history , culture, and literature, creating a unique and
inspiring atmosphere for those who visit. The upper part of the building has been used
as a public library since 1951. Hindi Bhavan is a public institution and a cultural hub, and
visitors are allowed to enter the building. Hindi Bhavan is a cultural
institution dedicated to the promoting and preservation of the Hindi language
and literature. Hindi Bhavan is a working institution, and some areas might be
restricted due to ongoing activities and maintenance. Before visiting it’s a

MATRI BAGH ZOO :
Matri Bagh zoo was established as a symbol of friendship between the Soviet Union and India. It is the largest and oldest zoo of Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. It is a perfect place to spend weekends. Matri Bagh , with its diverse array of 14 animal families representing various species, including the white tiger, hyena, toddy cat, and nilgai, holds significance in both in-situ and ex-situ conservation practices.
